Just a very short, albeit highly interesting financial overview as to how well (or poorly) gaming software fared in the United States for the year 2004...
This press release from the Entertainment Software Association announces that sales of computer and video game software in the US reached a new record of $7.3 billion in 2004, according to data from the NPD Group. $5.2 billion from that number came from console game sales (compared to $4.9 billion in 2003), while $1.1 billion came from computer game sales (down from $1.2 billion in 2003) and $1 billion came from portable console game sales (up from $903 million in 2003). Twelve video games sold over 1 million units in 2004, while only two computer games sold over 500,000 units.
