Jonric from RPGVault has published his first impressions on Arcanum - Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. They are taken from 60 hours of gameplay, and they are very positive:

To this point in time, my overall impression of Arcanum is very positive. It's a deep, rich, non-linear RPG. The one aspect that has been taken to task repeatedly in previews and also in the reviews that have appeared earlier today is the graphics. Arcanum is a 2D title with 3D effects. To some, this means it uses old technology, leading to a knee-jerk negative reaction. However, closer examination reveals that the artwork is technically well executed, so these opinions are based not on the quality of the graphics but on how much the individuals like or dislike the style. In this regard, its distinctive nature helps it to stand out for some observers, but also makes it more likely that others will dislike it. As always, I believe you should judge for yourself. As for me, I can sum up my impressions by simply saying that I'm eager to see the rest of the game.
