RPGDot Game Rating Machine

jay has rated the following games:

Alternate Reality - The City: 4/10 points

This game COULD have been the RPG Holy Grail of the late 80s, but I found it WAY too frustrating. Dying and not being able to reload pretty much made it unplayable. Had some of the coolest game play and ideas of the time.

Arx Fatalis: 7/10 points

comment A very good game, with some problems. In many ways this could have been the classic RPG of 2002, but while the ambition was there, the execution wasn't. Ultima Underworld is one of the greatest RPGs of all time. The interaction with the enviroment, the first game in 3d, the freedom, the varied ways of playing. It's the spiritual predecessor to Deus Ex, Thief, System Shock and many more classics. As a tribute Arx works well in some areas, but not so well in others. The atosphere in this game is first class. Similar to Thief, you feel that there is so much history and that the world has survived a long time. The cultures are varied and very well depicted. The Goblins are hilarious and have to be one of the funniest things I have seen in a RPG. The variety of things to manulate and use adds a lot, but is not consistant. Some items are infinately usable, while others take up plenty of precious space and are as useful as the Henchmen in Neverwinter Nights. A compass would have been very nice, and there was lot of bugs (most of which have been fixed), and I really miss being able to direct the conversation. I didn't like having to be everyones errandboy, and the game was a little too linear for my taste. The magic system is great, and really adds to the emmersion in the world. On the whole I would really recommend this game, and while my rating is substantially lower then most, I hope I've explained why. I really look forward to their next game, and believe that Pirana bytes next game will be a classic. Bioware had to develop Baldur's Gate before Baldur's Gate 2, so I hope that the next game surpasses all expectations.

Autoduel: 7/10 points

Fun adaptation of the PnP game 'Car Wars'. Build your own car, tool around to different towns, fight in arenas or on the road. Found a cheat to the blackjack tables in Atlantic City, so I was always rolling in dough =)

Baldur's Gate: 8/10 points

Very fun RPG. Helped revive the genre. Hope you found the Ring of Wizardry!

Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn: 9/10 points

Amazing. Giant leap up from the original (which was a great game). Will be the benchmark for future RPGs, especially D&D licensed titles.

Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn: 1/10 points

Bad game. I am soooo BORED

Bard's Tale 3 - Thief of Fate: 7/10 points

Fun, long, and interesting. Mapped entire game BY HAND.

Curse Of The Azure Bonds: 7/10 points

Gold box goodness.

Dark Age of Camelot: 7/10 points

EQ done (mostly) right. Continued development makes it more interesting as time goes on. Downside- A leveling treadmill and a PvP system where level is king makes for some damned unsatisfying gameplay at times.

Dark Age of Camelot: 4/10 points

Quests and tasks are boring.

Divine Divinity: 8/10 points

comment Great game.

Dungeon Lords: 10/10 points

If we can stand the bug and other minor problem, it offer a lot of fun. It is my dream to be a hero and slash all monster i see. And i found it well on this game.

Earth And Beyond: 8/10 points

Not the best, but far from the worst. It takes some of the best aspects of EQ, UO and DaOC and combines them into a space-format game. I really enjoy it!

Elder Scrolls 2 - Daggerfall: 7/10 points

This game could have been AWESOME. HUGE world, open-ended, fascinating character possibilities (including vampirism and lycanthropy).Very fun to play. Crippling bugs and horrid random dungeons were its downfall.

Elder Scrolls 2 - Daggerfall: 9/10 points

The bugs weren't that bad, and vast freeform play made up for them.

Elder Scrolls 3 - Morrowind: 10/10 points

This is definitely a 10 rated RPG.

EverQuest: 8/10 points

Revolutionary 1st person MMORPG. Big world, lots of character options, tons of treasure. Leveling treadmill. Steep learning curve. End game gets tiresome.

Fallout - A Post Nuclear Adventure: 10/10 points

comment

Freedom Force: 8/10 points

Over the top campy comic fun. Character generator is incredible. Game play is a hoot. Only downsides are a totally linear single player game and VERY limited multiplayer options. Definitely worth a try.

Gothic 2: 10/10 points

The best game ever. The only game I ever gave a 10/10

Icewind Dale: 7/10 points

Hack and slash D&D goodness. Light on plot, heavy on combat. Bring a cleric and a paladin!

Jagged Alliance: 7/10 points

This game is a blast!

Neverwinter Nights: 10/10 points

It's rock man....

Phantasie: 6/10 points

Decent part-based RPG.

Pool of Radiance: 9/10 points

Revolutionized RPGs. TONS of AD&D fun.

Pool of Radiance - Ruins of Myth Drannor: 3/10 points

I was SO excited for this game, and then SO disappointed. Buggy, tedious...just bad. 3E rules made it interesting for about 3 hours, then the tedium of traipsing to and fro for hours got to me. Avoid it.

Secret of the Silver Blades: 6/10 points

Fun, but got tedious towards the end. I remember endless droves of umberhulks. Cute chick on the box =)

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: 10/10 points

DAmnly addicted

Temple of Apshai Trilogy: 6/10 points

Mindless quasi-RPG fun.

Ultima 4 - Quest of the Avatar: 10/10 points

Perhaps the best RPG of all time. Innovative, immersive, and addictive. I took about 200 pages worth of notes while playing. I miss it!

Ultima 4 - Quest of the Avatar: 6/10 points

classic but not as good as ones after.

Ultima 5 - Warriors of Destiny: 7/10 points

better than 4, but still not great.

Ultima 6 - The False Prophet: 7/10 points

a step back before the excellence of 7

Ultima 7 - Serpent Isle (Sequel): 10/10 points

comment Ultima 7 is the greatest RPG ever created, and probably the best game for any platform. The vision and depth is truly astounding, and this is the only game I can remember (with the possible exception of Master of Magic and Ultima Underworld) that I would give a 10.

Ultima 9 - Ascension: 1/10 points

The retail version was so bad it was virtually unplayable. I heard they eventually got it patched to playability, but I wasn't wasting any more time. Took perverse pleasure in breaking the CD into flinders.

Ultima Online: 9/10 points

Revolutionary. It is OLD and folks are still playing it. Drawbacks- antisocial 'd3wds', dated graphics, smallish world, tedious at times. Still some of the best online experiences I have ever had.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines: 8/10 points

It should be better without the annoying bugs and loading time, but if we can stand all that it still have a lot of good things. Gameplay are good. The character skill and abilities are cool, it is very interesting to try different classess. overall it is a worthy game to play for a long time.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption: 7/10 points

Interesting take on the White Wolf PnP RPG. Fun at first, but totally linear storyline gets old in time. Multiplayer was ambitious, but fell flat (before its time).

Wizard's Crown: 8/10 points

This game was A LOT of fun. Auto-combat was nice for easy battles; tactical combat was great for the epic fights. Still get a chill when I think about 'Seasoned Adventurers'. Man they were tough, but they had some great loot!
