Since it's release a couple of weeks ago, Funcom's Shadowland expansion for Anarchy Online has garnered near universal praise and this next review at Dead Alfs is no exception. The score is 9/10 and here's some snippage:
So to the playfields themselves, and perhaps some of the most stunning vistas I've yet witnessed in an MMORPG. The sheer vastness and beauty of the zones is spectacular, with the design throughout of astonishing quality. Once you leap from the old Rubi-Ka world to Shadowlands, the different is marked. Throughout the various playfields you are always under the light of an eclipsing sun and a huge vortex .. the shimmer effect of which had me standing in admiration. Apparently, if you watch long enough you can also see stuff being sucked down into the vortex! Attention to detail like this is great to see. Shadowland's zones are so vast that it is entirely possible you will miss parts of the world! Each playfield has an area called 'The Brink', close to the edge of the floating landscapes and about ready to break up. This is where you also find a lot of nasty creatures, and some of the most eery lighting effects.
