When Adventure Europe's Dimitris Manos gets on the bandwagon, things really roll - as indicative of his recent editorial re "A Vampyre Story", Bad Brain Entertainment and Wolfgang Keirdorf...
I have followed the development of A Vampyre Story very closely since the first day I ever heard about it. Being a big fan of Curse of Monkey Island and The Dig, I was instantly sold by the fact that Bill Tiller would create the art for the game. But times have changed. Adventures are not the biggest fish our there right now like they used to be when The Dig and CMI were released. Although the situation is improving, it is still not as easy as it used to be to find a publisher/investor for a triple-A titles like A Vampyre Story. Therefore when Keirdorf showed up at The Inventory birthday party claiming to publish AVS I was in adventure gaming heaven. I thought his intentions were legit, so I decided to do everything in my power to help him and support him. A few of the things I did to help him were to open a forum for Bad-Brain and to conduct an interview for the Inventory with him.
Alas, I was fooled like practically everyone else. Some months later the scam started being unveiled. I became a bit suspicious for the first time on the 28th of January 2005. Wolfgang Keirdorf started a thread at the BBE forum where he created a petition for Steve Purcell to give the rights to Bad Brain. An unusual, weird and even tactless move, but I decided to give Wolfgang the benefit of the doubt and even back him up, when some writers from a Spanish adventure site accused him of lying. As I said before I was ready to defend anyone that would give AVS the chance to be published around the world. Something that makes me realize in retrospect, that at the age of 25 I still have a lot to learn.
In retrospect, if you cannot seem to follow the link the the above story - it is probably because you are not a registered member of Adventure Europe - just click on our link to AE's mainpage (located in our left-hand column under "Other sites"), as registration to AE is both easy, and free!! |
