Many console and PC RPG’s follow the path of absolute good and evil. There is no doubt that the lines are clearly defined. The player character is usually taken on a linear path, and NPCs say the same thing until a scripted event is triggered. On the low end of things you had hack and slashers (Diablo). On the opposite end you had complex-turned based systems, which were heavily statically based (Final Fantasy Tactics). Then there comes along CDProjeckt, a Polish game publisher, which creates its own original RPG called The WITCHER. The development team is currently striving to make a more “balanced” RPG in which they will try to strike a balance between complex gameplay and an intriguing story.
