Neverwinter Nights: Walkthrough, Chapter 1 (Back to contents)
1) Main Quest: The Wailing and the Waterdhavians
2) Main Quest: Helm's Hold
3) The Search for Never's Tomb

The Search for Never's Tomb

This is a multi-part, class quest within several parts of the city of Neverwinter.

Reverend Judge Oleff
During the first part of Chapter One, you are in the Hall of Justice. The door on the side opposite of Aribeth will lead to Judge Oleff. Speak to him to get an idea of the Tyrran faith and eventually, he will begin talking about recovering artifacts.

If you are a Paladin, Monk or Cleric, he will automatically give you the quest info. If not, you can persuade him. His persuade check is at DC24. If you fail, try again later when your skill is higher.

He will give you a Letter From Oleff.

Neverwinter, City Core
An alternative to handing over the quest items to Oleff is to sell them to GILLES in the Moonstone Mask. He will pay you 600 gold each with a bonus of 600 gold and a Morning Star +1 when he's received the 4th artifact. This is so that he can despoil the artifacts for his evil Goddess.

If this type of morally corrupt behavior is unpalatable to you, at least keep talking to him until he tells you about Jacob's Quill. Demand it from him and he'll no longer stick around. Oleff will give you 500 gold for the Quill.

Peninsula District
Begin your quest in the Peninsula District. Take the Letter from Oleff to the Never's Tomb Excavation Site on the far East side of the District. Speak with Briley downstairs for more information on the quest. The chest near Briley contains the quest items. Halueth's Tomb: An Archaeological Logbook (for a list of other sites) and the keys for those sites, the Ceremonial Arrow, the Shield and the Sword.

Beggar's Nest
The Halueth Never's Tomb is located in the Great Graveyard. It is reached through the Underground Crypt, which is part of the UNDEAD INFESTATION quest.

The chest at the door has a riddle, "A Wall at Arm's Length". Put the Shield in the chest to unlock the door.

You will be facing a level 6 undead mummy, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to have along the cleric, if you are not one. His main weapon is Mummy Slam (1d6+3, Mummy Rot) which can really ruin your day if you don't have a lesser Restoration spell, scroll or potion. He has a 50% vulnerability to Fire.

Take the Ancient Chronicles of Halueth Never.

The Blacklake District
Again, on the East side of the District you will find a house. Speak to the kid & his mom to find out the way through the bookcase. Once inside, there are undead to wade through until you find the chest with another riddle. This one, "A Splinter Delivered In Flight" is obviously the Arrow.

Once you open the door, you will be faced with the Four Swords of Neverwinter. I was never able to defeat these at a lower level, so I merely used invisibility (shadow?) to sneak past, loot the chest then recalled back to the Hall of Justice. You will find a Greataxe +1 and Halueth's Rusted Armor.

The Docks District
The last excavation site is within the aqueduct beneath the Silver Sail. Remember to keep yourself on Dara'nei's good side. West of the Entrance is another riddle chest, "The Tooth of the Forge", which needs the Sword to unlock the door.

Within is a sarcophagus holding the Amulet of Tyr. Taking this amulet will open three doors from which a nasty mob of undead emerge. Kill or recall as you chose.

Reward Time
Oleff is quite happy to take the items you've gathered and reward you, though not necessarily well. I believe he pays you 200 gold for each quest item, though with a good persuade, you can up that by 100.
