Gamespy has an interview with Andrew Tepper from eGenesis about their very unique MMORPG A Tale in The Desert. Here's a snippit:

Andrew Tepper: The goal is to build the perfect civilization, by perfecting the seven "disciplines of man" that the Ancient Egyptians wrote about:

    Perfection of Leadership
    Perfection of Worship
    Perfection of Art & Music
    Perfection of Conflict
    Perfection of Thought
    Perfection of Architecture
    Perfection of The Human Body

To succeed, the players must individually perfect themselves, and they also have to perfect their society as a whole. Their success or failure will be measured when the players try to build the great monuments. These monuments can only be successfully built by players that have perfected themselves, and they are built of rare and exotic materials that only a perfect society could produce. We say that the society has perfected a discipline when some player in the game has built the monument of that discipline.

Each time the players succeed in building one of the great monuments, the entire civilization will be granted a new power. The players will not know in advance what these powers will be. Frequently, these new powers will drastically shake up the balance of influence and wealth, so the players need to be alert to deal with the consequences.

Not long after these seven goals are achieved, the game ends.

You might want to have a look at our "at a glance page", too, where you can find a link to screenshots and an online gamers diary where we reported about this interesting game...
