Gamespy has it's third EverQuest 2 dev diary installment online with lead environment artist Danny Lewis penning some thoughts:Everything in the world is bump-mapped. Over the course of the project, our texture artists have endured much pain making sure the wood gives you virtual splinters and making sure our bricks pop out at you. You can feel the grit of the dirt, see the mud between stones, and see rust eating through metal. Now overlay grime, mold, mystical symbols, glows, and other various substances and you have building materials that simultaneously manage to look both realistic and out of this world. This process of combining several textures to create "shaders" is the core of our impeccable DX9 engine. |
