The second of three features at RPGVault today is a Black Moon Chronicles Developer Diary, written by François "Flint" Bourdeau, Marketing & Communications Manager at Vircom. It deals with practical jokes by illustrator's revealing some easter eggs in the game. Quite fun to read, and nice examples, too. Here's a part of the dev diary:
They listen to weird music. Some of them look like inhabitants of other planets. They don't use mice with their computers. Some of them hardly ever speak and you can't beat them at Quake. Who are they, do you ask? They're Black Moon Chronicles' team of illustrators and artists!
They are the guys who spent hundreds of hours creating the whole universe of Black Moon Chronicles - Winds of War. They drew everything, from the most insignificant cavern rock to the magnificent tower of Magystria.
Did you ever wonder what happened in the guys' head after countless hours spent scratching a Wacom? Eeerrhhh, yeah, they began to blow a couple of fuses ;o)
To prevent permanent - or should I say additional? - brain damage from this harassing task, the guys simply decided to insert a couple of weird references or anachronisms in Black Moon Cchronicles' backgrounds. Often referred to as "Easter eggs", these little jokes are virtually unnoticeable for the majority, but very amusing to discover for the more accurate observer. |
