The XBox Collective has written up a preview of Dungeons & Dragons Heroes, Infogrames console Action-RPG in the tradition of BG - Dark Alliance:
To be honest I think that Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes looks like a clone of Gauntlet Legends with the D&D license slapped onto it. That is not necessarily a terrible thing, however we have been playing Gauntlet since the N64 days and for some the repetitive hack n’ slash gameplay may be wearing thin. Xbox Live, or at least system link play may have been a saving grace here; sadly neither will be supported, decreasing the potential market for the game. Rounding off my list of gripes is character selection, or lack there of. The D&D universe contains hundreds of various characters, classes, and races and we are limited to a choice of 4 characters? I commend Infogrames for all of their efforts, however I simply feel more thought and planning could have been put into this one.

On the other hand it would be unfair to proclaim that there are no positive aspects to this title. In my opinion placing the focus of the gameplay on co-operation and teamwork was a step in the right direction. Although technically Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes would not be classified in the party game genre, titles such as this will provide twice the fun of a Fuzion Frenzy or Shrek Super Party. Without doubt the best gaming experience to be had will come when you have 2 or 3 friends fighting alongside you. Infogrames is attempting to create the best multiplayer gaming possible by negating as much frustration as possible. Things such as friendly fire will be turned off, and one responsible player will handle camera control. The potential is definitely evident, and we will all get a chance to embark on a quest of our own when Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes launches this summer.
