A review of Nival's tactical RPG, Silent Storm, has popped up at Active Reviews with a score of 4.5/5:Tactical strategy changed the day X-com: UFO Defense was released by Microprose back in the Stone Age of PC gaming. X-com took a unique approach to strategy by combining base management and tactical combat in a slick package, and amassed a huge cult following that unfortunately could not support the company or future X-com titles. The spirit of this great game has lived on though, and traces can be seen in many turn-based tactical action games today. One of the more recent spiritual successors to X-com is Nival Interactive’s Silent Storm. Outside of the basic building blocks which made X-com such an addicting and excellent game, Silent Storm’s similarities to the classic title come to an end. Silent Storm picks up where X-com left off, and opens up the genre of turn-based tactical combat infused with RPG elements to new technologies and a separate, albeit over-exhausted theatre of war. Read on to find out how Nival managed to revitalize a genre which needed it most. | Source: Gamerankings |
