RPGvault has visited Westwood Studios and brought back this pre-launch report covering the company's about to be released space-based MMORPG Earth & Beyond.
Here's a bit:With Westwood staff flying high-level, well-equipped vessels, the demonstration continued with quick visits to a couple of areas that haven't been seen much, not even by many of the beta participants except for short periods of time before they died. Xipe Totec is a remote sector where various scoundrels roam, and Grissom Planet is a gas giant inhabited by high-level beasts; we were told these creatures' various parts are sought as trophies, with bounties paid for those willing and able to bring them back. The way in which the members worked together was notable, using their various classes' respective skills to the advantage of the group. During this time, Creative Director Chris Plummer pointed out that although it is definitely viable to solo in Earth & Beyond, group play and especially working together are even more rewarding. This bears out my experience in the beta. Grouping is advantageous because it provides bonus experience points and various class-specific benefits. However, simply grouping and then everyone acting individually is neither as worthwhile nor as much fun as working together. |
