Bandai's episodic .hack: Mutation has been reviewed at Jolt. The score is 5.5/10 and here's an excerpt:The game is a world set within a MMORPG, or Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game for those who aren’t too familiar with the lingo. The idea is that you are a guy (who’s name we do not know yet) who likes to waste away the hours playing ‘The World’ online with a character he has created called Kite. Now Kites’ friend, Orca, has slipped into a coma after playing the game so Kite decides to investigate the cause of this by delving deeper into the game to see what he can find out. Along the way he links up with a few in game friends who offer help and together they undercover what seems to be something sinister about ‘The World’, strange events unfold as the characters share their experiences of some kind of virus that seems to be infecting the game world. Part 2, Mutation develops this story line further as the characters discover that fragments from an old game called ‘Epitaph of the Twilight’ still appear to be installed on the server, which is causing the corruption of ‘The World’. Chapter 2 is essentially based around these two characters digging around for more information on the old game to find out the cause of the corrupted data, and what the game was about... |
