Joerg Schwiezer has been interviewed about Neocron, Reakktor Media's futuristic MMORPG by Jonric at RPGVault. Here's a part:
Jonric Please expand on the player characters and classes. What choices do players have in customizing their starting avatars? How does the player's decision of which organization to join affect the character, both immediately and long-term?
Joerg Martin Schwiezer: As stated above, the player can choose between four classes (Spy, Private, Tank and PSI-Monk class). The visual appearance can be customized (gender, face, skin color, clothes). You can then pick a job, which defines your basic skill point distribution. You can also change this distribution manually. The amount of available skill points per skill class depends on the class you have chosen.
The faction you choose does not have a heavy impact on the character right away. It only sets a higher 'loyalty' value to that particular faction and it determines the address of your apartment (e.g. if you join a rebel faction, you will live in a hidden canyon in the Wastelands, but if you choose to work for a high-tech company or the government, you will start with a nice apartment downtown). If you increase your loyalty value to 100% for a faction (e.g. by completing missions for it), the faction will offer you the chance to start a clan for it. Existing clans that are bound to a faction can set a 'faction loyalty limit' for new members. So, if you want to join a clan, you have to reach their set loyalty limit. So, the choice of the right faction does have a quite heavy impact on the gameplay in the long run. |
