VideoGamesLife has put together an ambivalent review of Liquid's War of the Ring with a score of 66%:
Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring attempts to take the world established by renowned author JRR Tolkien, and turn it into a real-time strategy. This presents quite a few problems from the outset when you take into consideration that we already have a game similar to this; Warcraft III. But Liquid Entertainment isn't content with making a carbon copy of the aforementioned title, and plan to take the strategy genre into unexplored territory with the release of War of the Ring. Innovation? War of the Ring is absolutely filled with it! And...err...well, if you believed anything we wrote in the last few sentences you're an idiot. War of the Ring is about as average as an average strategy game can get. It has its moments, sure, but most of the time it's exactly what we said it was at the start of this review – Battle Realms in Middle-Earth.
