A review of Ion Storm's 'Thief: Deadly Shadows' can be found at Preys-World today. Rating: 4.5/5.Briefing
For the uninitiated, this is the third title in the Thief series of games. And in this Medieval world there is no lock you cannot open, building that cannot be entered and precious item you cannot steal, for you are Garrett - Master Thief.
Last year there was a great deal of worrying over the fate of this title from many of its hardcore fans, mostly brought on by the "dubious" quality of the sequel to the critically acclaimed Deus Ex, developed in parallel.
Thankfully this story has a happy ending, so permit me to tell it to you...
Since this also marks the first time a Thief game has journeyed to console, a whole new set of gamers has been welcomed into Garrett's world and there have been a number of concessions made in order to make it more "accessible". If you've played the recently released demo you'll be familiar with its paint-by-numbers tutorial level, un-skippable because it contains important plot details. Thankfully this level of guidance disappears straight after and you're dropped into a sprawling city with endless opportunity and control... |
