A couple of interesting posts have popped up at the SWG forums, both involving Raph "Holocron" Koster (Creative Director):
1) Holocron has started a thread called "The military, and aliens in it". It picks up on yesterday's FAQ addition which was military related.
2) The 2nd post deals with grief players:
I see a couple of scenarios here.
1) There's a Rebel who wants to kill turncoats who sign up for the Empire despite the fact that the Empire enslaved their brethren.
That sounds like roleplay *generally* speaking. I hope that Pallos is engaging in hyperbole when he says that he will grief said people. All he needs to do is kill them in standard PvP, no need to use grief tactics. This is what I was getting at with the "pretend" versus "real" bad behavior.
2) Neutrals who see the same turncoats and harass them.
Harassment is not allowed.
3) Imperials who dislike having the aliens on their side.
They can choose not to play with them, near them, don't give them missions, if higher rank, give them orders for suicide missions, etc. Yes, life will be harder for aliens in the Imperial military. They cannot however lynch them. That would result in Outcasting.
Remember the definitions of "functional roleplay" that I gave here ages ago? Cases where the game mechanics drive people to roleplay or act in certain ways? This is one such case. There's going to be substantial social pressure here, and a big taboo. Some will try to break it. Others will opt for the easier route.
And I DO think it can be done without grief play. Griefers who break the Terms of Service will be banned. If players can't roleplay this correctly, they probably can't roleplay any other conflict correctly either. :(
