Liquid's 'War of the Ring' has been reviewed at ReviewGamer. The score is a modest 7.5/10 and here's a snip:
Creating a game based after one of the most inspirational and ambitious fantasy novels ever written was no walk in the park, but it was a burden Liquid Entertainment decided to take. Being the first Lord of the Ring real time strategy game, I had built up high hopes for The War of the Ring as I followed it through its various stages of development. For the first time in history, players would be able to command the armies of Mordor as they laid siege to the fortress city of Gondor, or take control of the Riders of Rohan as they struggled for victory during the battles of Helms Deep. However, after playing a couple of good solid gaming sessions, my hopes have been shattered leaving only ruins of their former glory. War of the Ring while still entertaining in its own way can be classified as a mere clone of the various other popular RTS titles such as Blizzard’s Warcraft III and Liquid Entertainments own Battle Realms.
