This is an older title, but I enjoyed it tremedously when it was released: Severance: Blade of Darkness. PC-Gaming has written a review of the game, and rated it 4/5. Look at the screenshots there, they show how advanced the graphics were when it was released (look at the water and the shadows). Now, here's their summary:
That said, Severance is still just an action game. It does not provide you with a deep philosophical message nor will it challenge you intellectually with thought provoking puzzles. All Severance provides you with is an outstandingly good hackfest. Sure, there may be some kind of story squatting behind the monumental amount of annihilation but fighting is the name of the game here. If Shogun: Total War was the Sun Tzu of games, Severance would be a bloodthirsty ogre.

Severance, so it seems, does exactly what it says on the tin.
