Massive Multiplayer.org have had an interview with Steve Escalante, Vice president for Marketing and Sales and Co-Lead designer for the game. The interview is held to mark the end of beta phase 1 and the start of phase 2.
Let’s jump to some specifics here: Early on, it looks like the design group made the decision to go with less detail, more color, and a stylized presentation. Can you comment on how you came to terms with this decision in a market filled with Anarchy Onlines, Asheron’s Calls, and EverQuests?

One thing people are not putting together is the technology that we are pushing. First of all these games you mentioned have the luxury of being single player games. So every character you see on your screen is either one player or one NPC. Fighting Legends is different in that, the one player you see can be represented on the screen with sixteen different characters at once. Now place the size of Everquest in the picture and there are hundreds of characters in your screen because it takes you and ten other buddies to defeat the big bad monster from hell. I can almost guarantee this is why Sovereign is now sprite based. So in some regards it was a conscious choice due to the amount of triangles we are drawing on the screen. The other reason is all the other games coming out…do you notice a difference between their choice of graphics and ours? And lastly we feel that that is what the online games, and some of the stand alones, are missing…a stylized presentation.
