Story of Forestia, First Impressions

Myrthos, 2001-09-27

Story of Forestia is an online game with a cartoonish style in 3D. It plays in a world of insects and nature in the hidden Forestia continent. Unlike many other Korean online games, Forestia seems not to emphasize violence, even though it has some combat.

The Game

When I was at ECTS I had a look at the Story of Forestia. The game is one of the new 3D anime type of online RPG's coming from Korea. The game also tends not to lean so much upon killing monsters.

Forestia is a paradise like land, under the protection of a higher being named Obe, where the people of Forestia lived in harmony with the beguls (insect like creatures). You advance in the game through a series of quests, where they claim that each new quest depends on the outcome of the previous solved quests. Which, if it works out, should create a lot of gameplay.

The graphics in Forestia are bright and friendly, giving it a bit of a 'cute' atmosphere. Check out some of the screenshots displayed below to check for yourself.

Characters
You can select from upto 12 characters to play. Among which are a fencer, who likes to use a sword. A summoner, who is actually an evil witch but looks like a schoolgirl and uses magic to create the most terrifying weapons. A dancer who can cure wounds and has some magical powers to use in combat and the archer, who can use missile weapons.

There are more of course (as there are 12), and you can see some artwork of them in our gallery. You will also find some bugs (beguls) in there, such as the gourmand who attacks with a poisonous saliva and the tarantula that has a build in radar making it easier to detect you and will attack on sight with it's deadly stinger.

What's Next
Forestia also has a party and a guild system encouraging some form of cooperation. From they way the game looks and how it behaves it does seem a bit of an odd game for the Korean market, which seems to prefer a lot of combat and killing. To no surprise they told me that the game would be released in Europe in the summer of 2002 and after that they want to release it in the states as well (although no time has been given for that).

In the meantime we have some wallpaper art for you.

And to have a peek at the game yourself, two videos in the Windows Media Format. The first is an intro movie (16Mb) and the second shows some gameplay (45Mb).
