An interview with Game Director Steven Huynh from Dark Ages: Medenia has been posted at RPGVault. Here's a bit from that:
Jonric: Before we talk about Medenia how would you summarize Dark Ages to give our readers a basic understanding of the kind of game it is, and what sets it apart from both from its Korean counterpart and other online worlds in general?
Steven Huynh: Dark Ages is an online role-playing game where players can interact with one another in a fantasy world. What makes Dark Ages different from most online games in general is the community. There are two features in Dark Ages that let players interact with one another at a different level. The first feature is the political system. The political system allows players to gather support from other players and take office as an official of a town. Depending on the position, players can write laws, enforce laws, hold trials, and administer punishment. We've been very pleased to see over time that the laws written by players are very impressive and professional. This sort of depth of involvement is just one unique part of what makes up the Dark Ages world. One of the more interesting and brutal aspects of Dark Ages politics is the diplomatic attacks. Politics in Dark Ages has been known to be quite ruthless and can get to be as wild as any PvP attack. If the citizens of towns are not happy with their officials, they can have them ousted from office with support from other players.
The second feature is the religious system. There are eight religions represented in Dark Ages where players can hold mass and attain different positions within the temple such as Acolyte and Cleric. Dark Ages also encourages a role-playing environment. As an interesting aside too, there is a heresy law that limits players from speaking out of character. That keeps the role-playing true to the world players are involved within. If you want to try out this interesting MMORPG, follow the link in our info box close to our headlines. |
