Gothic

*

"Under official order from King Rhobar, for whatever you have done to offend him in any way, you have been ordered the punishment of living in the barrier until it is destroyed or forever…"
A man in a yellow outfit recited to Canthar from a piece of parchment. Canthar was growing restless from listening to his nonsense.
"Just through me in and get it over-with," he thought. Two guards, wearing red and heavy silver armor, stood by Canthar. They looked impatient as well.
Canthar looked down. He was standing by a small cliff. He saw a pond at the bottom. The Barrier started right next to him. Soon they would throw him into it to be forever trapped. He didn’t show any fear but he felt it.

"Wait!" Canthar looked over to see an actual magician of Myrtana. He never saw one before. The magician or mage wore a golden robe with a triangle symbol in the middle of his chest.
"I have a proposal to make to you, convict." the mage said to Canthar.
"What is it?" Canthar asked.
"Take this letter and give it to the Magicians of Fire in the Old Camp. Do this and they will give you a reward, well worth your trouble."
Canthar thought for a minute and decided.
"On one condition. Spare me his nonsense," Canthar pointed toward the man with the yellow outfit.
"What? How dare you. I…!" the man began.
"Shut up!" the magician said to the man. "That is a deal, convict. Throw him in then." Then he handed Canthar the letter.

The two guards walked up to Canthar and grabbed his arms. Then they walked him to the edge of the cliff and pushed him off. He felt a strange feeling when he passed through the Barrier. He fell into the pond, and blacked out.

"Hey Bullit, look over there." Canthar heard someone say. He could barely open his eyes.
"What do we got here?" he heard a new voice. Then he felt himself being picked up by the collar of his shirt. "Welcome to the Colony," said the voice. Canthar could barely see the fist coming towards his head but could feel the pain it brought him. He fell back, again, into the water.
Now he heard another new voice.
"Leave the boy alone, and scram!" the voice said. He heard footsteps running away.
"You, get up."

Canthar opened his eyes and struggled to get up. He saw a tough looking man with a small, black beard and mustache.
"I’m Diego, who are you?" the man said.
It took Canthar awhile to respond.
"My name is," he took a deep breath, "Canthar. Why did you help me?"
"Well, because it looked like you needed some help. And to lead you to the right path."
"The right path?" Canthar was growing confused.

"You know about the three camps right?" he asked. Canthar nodded. "Well I’m here to help you to join the best camp."
"And which one would that be?"
"That would be the Old Camp. It is the biggest, and most powerful of the camps. And they guarantee protection well you're inside the camp. The other camps can’t guarantee anything."
"Protection from what?" Canthar asked.

"The Colony is full of dangers and secrets. You’re only safe well inside a camp." Diego responded without hesitation.
"And who was that man who punched me?" Canthar asked feeling his throbbing forehead.
"Ah, Bullit. He is always picking on newcomers like yourself. Don’t worry though. As long as you stay in the Old Camp he cannot bother you."
"Why, is he part of a different camp?" Canthar asked, embarrassed by all his questions.
"No. He belongs to the Old Camp. But like I said earlier, as long as you’re in the Old Camp you are safe. For a small fee, our guards will protect you."
"Oh. For a small fee."

"Yes, but it is very reasonable." Diego explained. "Now enough questions. You can ask me as much as you want later. Now, I’m heading to the Old Camp. We will meet there later and I will explain how you can join the camp. I believe you were told this earlier but I will say it to you more formally. Canthar, welcome to the Colony."
