Shadowbane Sage has conducted an interview with Vosx from Ubisoft about the game they are going to publish: Shadowbane. Here's a snip:
Matteon: The topic of accountability has long and deeply been discussed on the SB forums. The "safeguards" in place to prevent rampant killing are well known. However, there are many that seek to "beat the system". So, what do you see happening if the safeguards fail?
Vosx: No system is fail safe, and that's why there will always be a sense of 'danger' - you are never completely safe except inside a GM city.
Matteon: As a PvP oriented player, I like that answer.
Vosx: The system is based in a large part on removing anonymity. But if a player seeks justice, you will always have a 'location' for that justice to be dispensed, all that is lacking is the might, or the will. But the opportunity is always present.
Matteon: I think it's that lack of will that is the most common obstacle. :)
Vosx: Hehe, I would agree but unfortunately I think lacking the proper tools and mechanisms is the most common obstacle, that's why Shadowbane is so unique.
Matteon: That is also true.
Vosx: Also there is another point. Unfortunately, in other games their have been a mix of different playstyles and expectations for the game. In UO, players like crafts, hunting, and some liked PvP. Those groups rarely had common interests. In EQ, the same was also true - even on the PvP servers. Some thought it a Roleplay Server, some a PvP server. Many players enter those games with different expectations. In Shadowbane, there is PvP, and their is deep and complex roleplay. You cannot have true roleplay, and true epic storylines, and not have player vs player. So all Shadowbane players will begin on a similar footing - that conflict is a central part to how this game works. | Source: gaminggroove |
