A new Horizons interview has been posted at HomeLan. They talk to Paul Tanganelli, theClient Interface Engineer, about - well, the client interface. Here's a bit:
HomeLAN - How will the game handle communication between players?

Paul Tanganelli - Horizons will support the many forms of communication that have come to be expected as well as a few new tricks. Players will be able to say something to those in their close vicinity, tell players from afar, and shout to everyone within a large radius. You’ll also be able to set up your own chat channels and either set a password or just invite only those that you want in. You can have as many chat windows as you like and be able to control what communications go to which windows. For instance, you could have one window that displays combat spam, one that shows your guild chat, and yet another that only shows your tell conversation with your buddy.

Probably one of the most exciting features of the communication system is our in game instant messaging system. You’ll be able to create contact lists of any types of people you want. Set permissions for those lists or contact them all with a single command. You can also easily monitor the online status of those players in your lists. Many other bits of game functionality will be tied to these contact lists. For instance, you might want to specify who can walk on your property by specifying your friends lists, rather than maintaining the two separately.
