Just received the word that the ATitD playing session scheduled for today has been cancelled. Here's the info:Everyone,
I hate to do this, but we have to cancel Wednesday's play session.
On Sunday I got in to work, and discovered our Internet connection was down. Also on the answering machine was a message from AT&T saying that they expected the service to be down for "1-2 weeks." This was despite their assurance several days earlier that there would be no interruption in our service.
Anyway, we're marginally back online - all 10 computers at the office are hooked to a single 28k modem, which is how I'm sending this letter. A fraction of email seems to get through, and our web page is sporadically available.
Technically we could do the play session (the server machines are not hooked to AT&T's network), but trying to be in the game world while monitoring the server, receiving bug reports, etc., all over a single dialup that tends to occasionally hang up - is just too flaky.
So, to make it up, here's the plan: As soon as we're back online, we're going to do a really huge (at least 8 hour) weekend play session. This will be the biggest since Beta#1 - maybe we'll call it "Beta#1-and-a-half."
I'll send an email with all of the details once the network is back to normal.
While all of this has been going on, we've been busy adding major subsystems to the game. I expect most or all of the following to be part of the big session:
- At least one of the 7 tests of Conflict. [The conflict sub-game is done]
- The Contract system, 2-player contracts only. [Two player contracts are done]
- The Reputation system [This is done]
- At least one new non-conflict test [Not done yet]
- Much better Radeon support. [Done, only tested on a Radeon 8500 so far]
- A number of new things to build, and skills to learn. Rather than push Egyptian technology forward, I plan to concentrate on:
1. More efficient, specialized ways to get basic materials.
2. Purely decorative, status-symbol goodies.
- A contest
Anyway, thanks for bearing with us. I promise, the next session will be a blast!
On the Nile,
Teppy
