Pete Tyson, one of the busiest PR guys in the industry for sure *g*, lets us know that a new developer diary has been posted at the official site. It talkes about the motion capture for the game, is written by Jolyon Webb and contains some nice shots. Here's a bit:
I won´t bore you with the technical details of a motion capture shoot, which I am sure many of you are somewhat aware of anyway, but I will talk a little about the difficulties! As we captured each move we had to, in a way, look past the reflective dots and ´see´ the monster in-game. We needed to do this in order to make sure we got the best possible captures for each particular move. This was particularly hard in cases where the motion capture covered something that wasn´t strictly human, such as undead creatures.
The other major difficulty is getting emotion out of emotes such as waves, claps, cheers and boos. In real life when you see someone acting in this way you have many different ways of picking up the emotion, including the way the eyes look, the mouth, sounds and so on. When you are just capturing major body movements it becomes much more tricky to convey those emotions convincingly. Thankfully we had a very skilled team, especially Jamie, who some how managed to convey the emotion of panic a zombie might have while drowning! |
