TechTV has done a review of Baldur's gate: Dark Alliance for the PS2. Their rating of 3/5 stars sin't too enthusiastic, mainly because it is very short. Their summary:
At normal difficulty (which is actually quite easy) the game should take about eight to 10 hours to complete. There is replay value in the different characters, although the dungeons and quests remain identical. The developers also included the ability to transfer characters between save games, so you can bring your sorceress -- including all equipment and experience --from the end of one game into the start of another game and run through again. It is apparently possible to build your character up to 40th level using this technique, but it's not likely that anyone but the most devoted could play this game for that long.
In the end, what you have with "Dark Alliance" is a good game that is, at its heart, a console version of the venerable "Nethack." Of course, there is a reason people keep playing "Nethack" even today. It's fun to waste a few hours slaughtering the minions of darkness and collecting shiny toys at the same time. |
