Community Manager Maria Hamilton was interviewed by the folks over at RPGVault about Earth & Beyond. Here's something about her:
Jonric: By way of introduction, what is your background, including education, training and industry experience? How and when did you come to have your position on the Earth & Beyond team, what are the broad areas of responsibility it entails, and why did it interest you?

Cerdith: Hello. My name is Maria "Cerdith" Hamilton. I'm the Community Manager for Earth & Beyond. I've been working on the project for two years now, the entire time in this role. I remember the day of my interview here, and being incredibly impressed with the sheer scale of the project and the potential for being part of an exciting new game. I weighed the reality of the climate here (Las Vegas is a desert!) with the opportunity and leapt at the chance. Prior to my position at Westwood Studios, I was employed by Atari/Midway Games and America Online, and took on leadership roles in volunteer groups for several multiplayer games.

Community management is a fairly new sort of position, especially in the gaming industry, and probably evolved into a more formal job with the development of massively multiplayer games. The Earth & Beyond community team is responsible for quite a variety of functions, from our most important role as the liaison between the players and the development team, to website content, working with fansites, running contests and events (both in-game and outside the game), helping develop community participation programs, and working with guilds. Luckily, I have a great staff of three people to help with all these tasks.
