Read something about lasers in this snippit: Lasers are the most common type of weapon you will encounter. They are also known as "beam" weapons, for obvious reasons. Lasers are powered by your ship's internal reactor, and better lasers require more power in order to fire. Write this down - you should always strive to have the best reactor you can use, because the last thing you want is to deplete your reactor and have to wait for it to recharge in the middle of a firefight. But remember, the biggest reactor in the galaxy won't do you any good if it's collecting dust in your cargo hold. In other words, make sure you have the skill to operate any reactors you buy.
