After a very short notice about this game some weeks ago I would like to draw your attention to Ultima Unreal, a single-player MOD for Unreal Tournament. This title looks very promising, the screenshots are great and the team seems to be very dedicated. Here's the description of the MOD:Ultima-Unreal is a Single-Player only modfication for Unreal Tournament. The latest version of UT will be required. Ultima-Unreal links the gameplay of Baldurs Gate with the looks of UT. At the beginning of the game, the player may choose between two playercharacters. Having made his choice, the player will find himself in a beautifully designed world, which consists of several maps. This is where he gets to know a lot of persons, so-called NPCs, who will ask the player for help (quests) or who will help him. Humans, animals, Orks and lots of other creatures are the natural habitants of Ultima-Unreal's world . Later the player will be faced with the deamons that have come out of the hell's gate. As usual in fantasy games, the player will be able to do some magic. Collecting gold will be importat for him/her in order to survive. Gold will be necessary to buy more powerful weapons and items, as well as better armor. Without those things one will be no match for the coming crowds of deamons.
In addition, a German language Interview has been posted here, also showing more Screenshots.
Here's the latest Screens, where the link on the official site links to the minipics only, corrected:

The Camelot Herald has posted another issue of the grab bag, answering player questions about Mythic Entertainment's popular MMORPG. Here's a bit:
Q: How important is it that I have my weapon enchanted?
A: Well, the game assumes you will take advantage of every possible self-improvement available to you, and enchanting your armor and weapons (steel or better materials) is part of that. It doesn’t matter so much at lower levels, but by your 40s, you would be at a pretty big disadvantage in PVE if you have not at least somewhat improved your gear via enchantments. The disadvantage in RVR, of course, depends on what the other players have done.
Q: I know rez effects lower your concentration point pool, but sometimes the rez effect wears off but I don’t get my conc points back. What’s up with that?
A: That is a known bug we will be fixing soon – the temporary work around is to log out and log back in. |
Two reviews of Disciples 2 - Dark Prophecy, hit the net today. The first one at Pregaming rates the game 8/10, coming to this conclusion:
This game is well done; of that there is no doubt. However, it doesn’t really offer anything new aside from the genre-blending, and that wanes after a while. It’s fun for a few missions, but they take so long that I became bored soon. It’s not really the length that bothered me; plenty of games are long. It’s simply that there’s not enough new stuff to do. Sure, getting a Holy Paladin and crushing goblin archers has its high points, but there’s just something missing from this game and it takes away heavily from the fun factor. Disciples II just didn’t hold my attention for that long.
Despite my qualms, this is a good game. Anyone interested in games like Civilization II and III and RPG games (console-type) should at least give this game a look. The second review can be found at Computer & Video Games and is less positive with a rating of 75/100. Their conclusion:
You may well be thinking Disciples II is just another average RPG to add to the many already in existence. Well technically, it is, but in practice it has that inexplicable ability to keep pulling you back for more. The gameplay elements may well be tried and tested and nothing new, but they blend together in such a way as to make for an addictive and engrossing gameplay experience, much in the same way the Heroes series does. The only thing that stops DII getting an unreserved recommendation is its woeful presentation. The graphics, as you can see from the screenshots on this page, are tripe. If you like tasty visuals with your addictive gameplay, ditch this and go for Etherlords. If you don't care either way, you could do a lot worse than Disciples II to get your turn-based RPG fix. |
A preview of Final Fantasy 11, the MMORPG currently in beta in Japan, went online at Gamespot today. Here's something from that article:
Keep in mind that missions and signet spells are restricted within your faction. So if you talk to guards of another faction, you will not be treated as one of their own. The crystals also serve another function in the game--they're used for item creation, in conjunction with the "combine" skill. Players will need to improve upon their combine skill for item creation to succeed, and when it does work, you'll be able to create some useful items. The combine skills will be divided into several categories: smithery (for armor and weapons), sewing (for clothing), alchemy (for potions), woodwork (for shields and furniture), toreutics (for rings and amulets), and leather work (for whips, paper, and belts). For example, using the alchemy combine skill and combining items such as tree roots, mistletoe, a bat's wings, mercury, and the water crystal will yield a healing potion. |
The console-like Grandia 2 is now reviewed by IGN.PC - the access is available to registered IGN premier users only though, and since I am not, I cannot tell you its verdict... | |
