A review of Earth & Beyond has been posted at Wargamer today. I didn't find a numerical ratingl, but here's their summary:
Earth & Beyond is a huge game. It hasn't managed to absorb my time as much as other MMORPGs, but that's not because it's a less than stellar game. Well, let me say that it is certainly a foundation for what will be a stellar game. Westwood is promising monthly updates. The Halloween update, the first true update, was a blast. These updates will surely see the game grow into something more than it is. As it is, it's a great game, though it is marred by some lag in and about well-populated areas, but as a framework it is fantastic. The greatness of the game is not in what it is now, so to speak, but in what it will quite possibly become, as the mystery surrounding the visiting ships come out, and more updates are added, and player vs. player is finally implemented. If one is looking for an MMORPG that breaks free, for the most part, from the pack, then this is a good place to start. It might not suck you in, or maybe it will, but I think most fans of the genre will find it an interesting game well worth the monthly fee. For those who have never tried an MMORPG, this is as good a place to start as any. It's an intuitive, easy to learn, smartly designed and elegant romp through space, alone or with one's buds. I would call that a positive one. |
