The next E3 preview of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic can be found at Games Domain. Here's an excerpt:
Talking to NPCs is important. Through dialogue choices, they'll reveal clues, missions and other useful information. Just be careful what you say to them; as with any other action available in the title, it can have lasting moral implications. Behave badly and you'll drift towards the Dark Side. And believe us, it can be a pain when dealing with some of the nine NPCs who'll eventually join your party, especially when they start loudly voicing objections or committing direct insubordination.
Perhaps the biggest surprise we discovered, though, was how well the product handled. Combat occurs in real-time, but you can pause at any moment and issue orders to allies. Actions are assigned by using the D-pad to issue commands, queue up item or grenade attacks, or access Force powers and healing functions. Shockingly, the system works rather nicely, and auto-targeting functions more than satisfy when it comes to both hand-to-hand or ranged melee. Trust us, the twin-fisted lightsaber techniques must be seen to be believed. |
