David Allen was partner in an interview about Pharaoh Production's upcoming MMORPG Dominion over at PC Paradox. Here's what he has to say about how the game will play:
PC Paradox: Can you describe a basic game experience in Dominion?
David Allen: The initial release of DOMINION is for the Xbox, with a PC release following a few months later. Xbox players will be able to play both online and offline – building their characters and creating worlds to adventure in. DOMINION features a unique blend of immersion, character advancement, and community – to a level that I do not think has been seen as of yet. While DOMINION is not a MMOG, it does support an online community-based game that allows an unlimited number of people to come together in one place, and play in gaming worlds together (similar to Diablo 2).
When the player first starts DOMINION, they will find themselves in a different starting city, depending on the race that they choose. The game will default to a 3rd person perspective camera view, and be very graphically immersive. An AI controlled entity will serve as a tutor to first-time players – introducing them to the city, the services, their character and statistics, quests & storylines, and finally, combat, magic and treasure. The player will then begin to learn what types of monsters hang out where, the way seasons affect the landscape and weather, and more. By the time the player ‘really’ gets into the game, they will realize that they are just at the tip of the iceberg as far as the experiences the game offers. DOMINION is being designed to be replayed indefinitely, yet appeal to a much broader group of players than, say, DEMISE. |
