Computer Games and Games Extreme have both posted previews of the forthcoming NCSoft/NetDevil title Auto Assault. First up, Computer Games:
I have to confess that I’m sick of fantasy MMORPGs. I’m serious. I’m tired of dwarves, dragons, goblins, elves and the likes. Sure, this particular game universe does have its appeal, but there have been so many fantasy games released so far that I’ve reached a saturation point. Maybe that’s why I wasn’t hooked by World of Warcraft, but that’s another story. That said, I’m always excited when a game studio announces an online game that’s different from the classic fantasy recipe. Korean publisher NCSoft has made a habit of releasing games that break the classic rules and so far, their policy seems to pay off in a big way. First, there was City of Heroes, so far the only MMORPG to bring comic book style heroes to our PCs. Next, there was Guild Wars, focused almost entirely on Player vs Player and Guild vs Guild combat, with the “no monthly fee” ace on its sleeve. Now, NCSoft is preparing to release Auto Assault, the fastest, most destructive MMO ever, as the developers describe it.

NCsoft are a publisher who are achieving great things. They have shown that they can pick out gems when it comes to Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG). They have published Guild Wars, Lineage 1 and 2, City of Heroes and City of Villains. Each of these games has achieved success and each for different reasons. The newest game in the NCsofts catalogue is Auto Assault, developed by NetDevil. I played in the beta weekend event which was promoted in conjunction with Penny Arcade.
