The latest EQII Q&A with Steve "Moorgard" Danuser is now online at EQ2 Vault: Deathstryker: You have mentioned that there will be some form of racial abilities in the game, but not in a manner as in EQ where they caused certain races to incur an experience penalty. Can you explain any of the abilities we will see with certain races?
Steve "Moorgard" Danuser: Besides appearance and size, the chief differences among the various player races are starting stats, vision types, languages, and innate resistances. There are no longer racial traits such as increased regeneration for trolls or stun immunity for ogres. We found such traits to give too much of an advantage to certain race/class combinations.
Vision types vary quite a bit from those in EverQuest. For the most part, they are activated abilities that last for a given duration rather than something that persists all the time. There will be new variations on some of the vision types used in EverQuest, plus some new ones that we'll reveal in the near future. They all have unique visual elements that are much more impressive when seen rather than just described in print.
Player (and many non-player) races have their own languages, including unique fonts that you'll see used in game. Learning languages will not be a matter of spamming the chat window as in EQ, but will instead be a much more intuitive process.
Innate resistances vary by race. Because humans have no special vision abilities, they possess the highest total resistances. Here's the link. |
