Westwood's space-based MMORPG Earth & Beyond was awarded a -comparatively- low score by GameSpot. They have "only" rated the game at 6.9 out of 10 which equals "fair" according to their rating system. The reviewer mostly criticizes the long term motivation (or lack thereof).

BTW, I'm not trying to defend E&B in any way. I'd just like to make you aware that the GameSpot review seems sort of "off the track" (regarding the score) compared to other reviews. In fact, I personally don't care much for MMORPGs at all and haven't even played E&B yet.
Here's a bit:Because massively multiplayer online RPGs are continually evolving, Westwood will hopefully find some means of making the game's trade and combat elements more interesting in the coming months. And to its credit, the game does offer some interesting features that are new to online RPGs, most notably the ability to gain experience and levels without ever fighting a single enemy. In its current state, Earth & Beyond is fun for a short while, and at least you'll have some great sightseeing ahead of you before the game starts to lose its interest. |
