Jonric from RPGvault has interviewed Rich "BoShek" Vogel, the executive producer of Sony's/Lucas' Star Wars MMORPG. The interview is spread out across three different pages and covers a wide variety of issues like:Jonric: If we look at a longer time frame, the next five years or so, what evolutionary or revolutionary developments do you think we'll see, and again, what role will Star Wars Galaxies play in the big picture? And what changes would you like to see?
Rich Vogel: I see all console machines connected to the Internet and online gaming becoming truly mainstream. There will be many online games and they will not represent what we see today. Online games will have many different flavors - real-time strategy games, first person shooters, social spaces, collectable games, and boutique games. The present games will be regarded as boutique games - games that go after a very hardcore, niche market segment. Online games will be talked about in the millions of subscriber numbers instead of thousands.
As I said before, Star Wars will be the first big license product to go online and I am hoping that it will become the first game in the US to break the million subscriber mark. If we reach our goal, the game will be the start of the second generation MMOs and with its success, it will open more opportunities for others to follow.
