Star Wars is a unique beast. It is among the most recognized science fiction genre movies in the world, has millions of fans (though Trekkies still have the honour of having the word “Trekkie” in the dictionary) and likely one of the longest running fan fiction serials running - ever. And as any good geek will recognize, Star Wars is something that simply must be turned into a video game, however the results have usually been less than stellar (no pun intended).

This inability to craft a game of quality saw its demise early last year when Bioware released Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. This game saw the end of the structured plot line and the drawn out rehashes of the old Star Wars stories and it replaced them with an open and free roaming environment that allowed players an unprecedented degree of freedom in the Star Wars universe. With their success it was only natural that someone take that free roaming ability one step farther and create a massive multiplayer online role playing game.
