Epic Player has posted an interview with SOE's Steve "Moorgard" Danuser, Community Relations Manager for 'EverQuest II'.Qenamaar: In a detailed world like Norrath in EverQuest II there will be lots of obstacles like trees, big rocks, walls and closed doors. In EverQuest monsters often didn’t care about them and quite often were seen running through walls and other obstacles. How will NPCs handle different barriers and doors in EverQuest2? And have you found a solution to our weapons pointing inside the walls?
Steve 'Moorgard' Danuser: Our NPCs will be aware of objects in the world and will do better at avoiding them. But keep in mind that some exceptions to environmental collision are in place to avoid exploits, so in certain situations we have to balance what makes logical sense against what is best for gameplay.
Due to the massive number of characters and possible weapon types that the server needs to keep track of, it is impractical to prevent all weapons from penetrating walls. It's certainly possible from a code standpoint, but it would be extremely resource-intensive for very little practical gain. |
