IGN's Dan Adams manages to get his 2-page, "hands-on" preview of Freedom Force vs The Third Reich out to us in style...
Colorful tights... yes, bright spandex, decorative helmets, bright flashing lights, and justice. Now that's the life! Somehow, games that adopted fantastic idea of super powered heroes never actually managed to convey the fun and frolic of fighting crime before Irrational Games brought Freedom Force onto the PC in 2002. This wonderful piece of software allowed players to sink themselves into an exciting and vibrant game world full of comic book style art, writing, and drama. It was simply as good a super hero game as we've ever seen, including the recent excellent City of Heroes MMO (though the two are extremely different in nature). Thankfully for all of the comic book nerds in the universe (we know you're out there, even if you're a coward and won't admit it to your friends) Irrational Games is following up on their original idea of a Freedom Force series that will traverse the different ages of comics. The second of the series, Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich, takes the super hero team back to the 40's when Nazi's were running rampant and evil was the soup of the day. New heroes and new villains mean more action for our favorite videogame super hero team.
