RPGDot Game Rating Machine

Diktronic has rated the following games:

Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn: 9/10 points

At first it seemed to just be a "prettified" update for BG. However, by the time I got to the island I was hooked. It is by far the best multiple-character combat-based RPG out.

Bard's Tale 1 - Tales from the Unknown: 6/10 points

At the time it was the best thing going... but going back to play it again I found it hadn't aged as well as similar games.

Black & White: 5/10 points

Quirky and has the potential to be a "time-waster". However, it turned into a tedious battle for resources and soon made it's way to the shelf for forgotten games...

Diablo: 4/10 points

Far too slow to play for more than half an hour without being bored of walking everywhere. Being fair I bought this after Diablo II so it had a lot to live up to...

Diablo 2: 10/10 points

Not a true RPG, but it is the sheer brilliance of the gameplay that was the big hook. That and the search for unique items... and fighting the bosses... and the brilliant skills system... and the fact I must have played this for 500+ hours and it still looked fresh.

Diablo 2 - Lord of Destruction: 10/10 points

Playing Diablo II was a very mentally and physically challenge for me as I found hours passing without being able to take a break. When I finally finished it in Nightmare level I felt more satisifed than I ever felt for any other game. The first time I beat Diablo it took me almost two hours and I was a shaking, sweating wreck afterwards. Diablo I was absolute pants but Diablo II is my favourite game ever... bar none... The graphics may not be the best, but the gameplay and balance are outstanding.

Dungeon Master: 8/10 points

This game set the benchmark for non-text based RPGs and was the first game I stayed up all night to keep playing. I never finished Dungeon Keeper on my Atari ST... but I went back to it a couple of months ago and was hooked for the whole week or two it took me to complete it.

Dungeon Siege: 4/10 points

Bought it finished it - won't ever go back to it... Very much an anti-climax and I found the "drunk cameraman" gave me a headache. I still pick up DII for the odd game and find it much more immersive and satisfying. I will be too busy playing Morrowind to bother looking for Siegelets... Anyway, the Siege Editor has taken far too long to get out and still doesn't work properly.

Elder Scrolls 3 - Morrowind: 10/10 points

I hadn't played any of the earlier ES games before and I didn't like the look of this from the previews... but I was so disappointed with Dungeon Siege and couldn't wait for NWN to come out so I bought it! It is without doubt the most impressive RPG I have ever played and the lack of formula and linearity is amazing... I think I will be playing this for months to come. The editor seems a bit tricky, but has amazing potential too.

Planescape: Torment: 7/10 points

It took me seconds to get into, much quicker than Baldurs Gate. However, I eventually found the gameplay too slow and a bit linear so quit out around 75% of the way through. I keep meaning to go back to finish it though...
