RPGVault has written a test report about A Tale in the Desert, eGenesis' upcoming MMORPG that's completely combat-free. Here's a part of what they wrote:
An interesting example from the Discipline of Arts and Music is the test of Beetle Breeding. First, players must scour the world of Egypt for some of the insects. There are three types, speckled, plains and burrowing. Next comes the construction of terrariums, which are very complex structures, in which to breed them. Naturally, this necessitates having a male and a female beetle. Each offspring will have some characteristics of the parents. Players keep breeding them until they get one with a particularly interesting appearance, which they may then take to a scarab garden for showing. When seven players have built statues of their beetles, other players can vote on which is the most interesting. After a scarab garden has received 100 votes, it closes and announces which creature has the most. The winner receives a rank increase and can be put into a competition with other beetles of the higher level. This can continue indefinitely, but players pass the test when their beetle is rank 4. |
