Gamspy has conducted an interview with community manager Darren Baker from Gas Powered Games about their upcoming Dungeon Siege. Here's a bit:

GameSpy: How large can these battles become?

Gas Powered Games: Players who do not secure a proper retreat path may find themselves running deeper into enemy defenses. This can aggravate enemy pickets and sentries who will in turn gather reinforcements from surrounding areas to overwhelm attackers. At some point a battle situation may become almost instantly fatal to the party.
With over 200 different types of creatures in Dungeon Siege, massive battles with a mixed group of creature types in large numbers are often encountered. For instance in the swamp region you might come across a band of four swamp witches that surround your party in clouds of acid and summon swamp slingers while zombies approach your party from the side and airborne wasp-like swamp stingers shoot projectiles. Creatures can come at you from all sides, from the air, from the water, by land and will attack your party with every means available to them including melee, ranged attacks, and spell casting.
