The gold box series took CRPGs to a new level. Tactical considerations were a must (though the hold person spell was overpowered). Pacing was great (not real time, so in the middle of a chase you could sleep for 8 hrs, wake up right in the middle of the chase) if you could overlook the programing limits of the era. This series is famous for good reason!

I had a lot of fun with this game, though I never managed to finish it.

tactical combat and a good story

I would have rated this game higher but thereis something about the land of Krynn that is decididly not the forgoten realms. Even so, this game still brings back memories and the addition of new classes and races (Kender) and weapons (dragon lance)where very interesting.

Prometheus has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Prometheus)

I liked the gold box series...to begin with. But not enough innovation to keep the same game engine interesting for me. The story is decent, graphics are mediocre (even for the time), but gameplay was beginning to become tiring by the time this game was released.

you know i do not remember much about this game. i do know it was another one of SSI's D&D styled 8-bit games. i rate it a 9 for two reasons... 1) i remember the story being excellent.. and 2) it's the only SSI D&D game i have ever wanted to play to the end!

Red! has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Red!)

I started playing it but I never got hooked, unlike the pool of radiance series. It seemed averge story wise compared to it.

One of the true classics and one of the best, albeit easiest, of SSI:s classic gold box line.
