Over at Gamespy, you find the second developer diary for Etherlords. This time, Andey Emelyaneko talks spell costs, magical energy, and winning combinations. Here's a part of the article:
Another problem was the combat interface. MTG fans know that multi-color decks require the so-called colorless mana. In other words, your spell might cost two red lands and three lands of any other color. Now let's see how it would look in a CTBS. Your interface has four buttons in it, each detailing how much mana of every kind you have. Let's say you are going to cast a spell that belongs to, "red" magic -- it will cost you one "red" and three "any other" mana points. You'll click on a spell and it will automatically take one "red" mana point, because the spell is "red." So far, so good, but after this you must choose what "any other" mana would go along with this spell. This means that to cast one spell you need to click your left mouse button four times (or the right one, but it doesn't really improve things anyway). Do you think it is exciting? Me either. |
