A score of 8/10 is the result of PlayXcess' 'Deus Ex: Invisble War' for XBox review.
When I was a naïve and pure sapling of 10 years old, I stumbled upon a video tape of my father’s that, to some degree, shaped my interests and passions. The tape in question was not a German film called Das Grosse Pissen (although that DID cause me psychological issues several years later), but a science fiction title called Blade Runner. I was immediately enraptured of the bleak and perpetually rainy neon vista, and the sheer saturation of technology that made humanity both complacent and corrupt. I moved on to cyberpunk, as well as the works of both William Gibson and Philip K. Dick. The dream of the dystopian future is one that games have mostly failed to recognise; the System Shock games being notable exceptions; as well as the self-styled Blade Runner adventure game (ruined by the camp replicant nemesis called Clovis). Deus Ex finally gave me the experience I had been yearning for; the deep distrust, corrupted technology and domineering corporations. The fact that it was a seminal game only strengthened my appreciation. Now comes the much-anticipated sequel; and it was a worrying time for me. Like finding a new girlfriend after a long and happy relationship had ended; can Invisible War fulfil my dreams of a dismal and morally bankrupt future; or will I just have to wait on Tony Blair to bring it about for me?
