The latest Eve Online Journal (#7) can be found at ActionVault today. It is written by Hrafnkell Oskarsson, and here's a short bit from the short journal:
Forming a corporation in EVE serves several purposes. As touched upon above, the need to belong, to have comrades in arms to call upon, is a strong need in many of us. Grouping together like this offers mutual protection, which in a hostile world like that of EVE, can be invaluable. It allows people to roam to places they would never dare to go alone and to specialize in carrying freight or escorting. In fact, specializing is one of the biggest benefits of belonging to a player corporation. While a solo player can only depend on himself for whatever task is required, players in corporations can focus their characters one some special task to excel in, such as carrying freight, mining, researching or combat, depending on other corporation members to fulfill their other needs. The solo player must be a jack of all trades, not having the luxury of trusting someone else for some vital function such as protection or moneymaking. |
