Salthorpe is a fishing village on the west coast of Riada, the largest lake in central Mercia. The river Eanna connects this area to the capital of Sanguine, which lies just a short distance to the south. The villages of Silverley and Lainstone are also close, to the east and west respectively.

This part of the human kingdom is dominated by grass-covered plains, gently meandering rivers and scattered stands of coniferous trees. The soil is fertile here, and the area is home to a number of prosperous farming villages.

Though normally quite peaceful, the region has recently been plagued by goblins and kobolds migrating south from the no man's land between Mercia and Morak. To make matters worse for the locals, a spate of kidnappings indicate the presence of the dreaded Church of Malaut.
